This course is open to qualified Yoga Teachers who hold the Yoga Alliance 200 hour teaching certificate in Yoga or equivalent.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to design and teach effective yoga programmes for groups and individuals living with health needs and the most common health conditions including Musculoskeletal Injuries and Misalignment, Back Care, Joint Care and Joint Replacement, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Asthma, Stress and Depression, Arthritis, Diabetes, Obesity, Hypertension and High Cholesterol. You will also cover a module on Pre and Post Natal Yoga.

Our graduates often take referrals from both NHS GPs and the private medical sector and are trained to provide support that compliments medical treatment and physiotherapy, including pre and post surgery preparation and support.

The course is structured through a range of module based components covering both practical and theory across 80 contact hours with Elena Voyce and her team of experts in their respective fields, together with written assignments, research and final teaching assessments.

Training takes place at weekends allowing you time to digest what you have learnt in training and to complete your written assignments.

You will receive Teach Yoga and CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) endorsed CPD module certificates for each module taken.

Course Modules:
Introduction to Posture with Elena Voyce. 3 days

In this module you will take a look at where it all began and how we evolved. The world is changing and so too is our posture, so what is good posture and what does it tell us? This module provides an in depth exploration of posture and working with misalignment to provide a solid foundation for offering bespoke class programmes to private clients. You will look at posture in-depth and particularly look at how our posture can influence our safety, performance, power, resilience, and recovery from injury. You will also look at major cardio sports such as running, cycling and swimming and focus on common injuries, how to avoid these and how to remain injury-free during these activities.

You will learn how to:
• Assess flexibility, alignment and postural type.
• Identify main movement challenges and main practice challenges on all four levels (supine, prone, standing, seated).
• Work with twists and rotations for all postural types.
• Therapeutically apply Elena’s RASS methodology and modify asana to rebalance postural compensation.
• Identify common sports-related injuries and how to address them.
• Learn how long term sports-related injuries can be avoided.
• Learn how practicing small sequences before and after sports training not only prevents injuries but also enhances and improves levels of general fitness and performance on the track or in the pool.

Yoga as Therapy for Back Care with Elena Voyce. 2 days.

In this module we will specifically be looking at back care, the symptoms of back pain and techniques to address and alleviate back pain and discomfort.

• Basic Principles.
• What is your back telling you?
• The language of symptoms.
• Back pain: A social did-ease.
• The many causes of lower back problems and problems and functions of the intervertebral discs.
• Feel to Heal – The Practical application of RASS for each segment of the spine.
• Working with common Challenges of the lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine.
• Monitored teaching practice for one to one and group practice.

Yoga for Back and Joint Care with Lisa Price. 1 day. 
In this module we will look at back and the joints in depth. We will cover every major joint from the feet and up through every segment of the spine. In this module you will learn:
• Healing hands-on adjustments.
• Massage techniques.
• Techniques to facilitate and improve safe joint mobility.
• Ways to create and support inner stability to help recovery and to integrate healing while practicing.
• Ways to facilitate the healing of scar tissue.

Pre- and Post-Natal Yoga and Breath with Elena Voyce. 1 day. 

This module is an in-depth exploration of the amazing miracle of our life and how yoga practice can enhance and facilitate total connection and bring constant health through the 9 months of pregnancy. We will look at all aspects of pregnancy and breath including breath awareness techniques and techniques to support the full process of pregnancy. In this module you will learn the do’s and don’ts of practicing during and after pregnancy and upon completion of this module you will be able to work privately with pregnant clients and integrate pregnant women into group class settings.

Yoga for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Asthma and Breathing with Katerina Zuckova. 1 day. 
In this module we will look at breathlessness and other lung diseases. You will be introduced to and guided in the practice of the Buteyko Breathing method. Buteyko is a technique for improving quality of life for those with asthma, COPD and anxiety. In this module you will learn:
• Anatomy of the respiratory system- nose, mouth, lungs, diaphragm, accessory muscles
• Pathophysiology of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Asthma, Shortness of Breath
• Physiology of the breath cycle- the molecular exchange
• Introduction to Buteyko breathing- the Oxygen Advantage method and how breath control increases oxygen delivery to the tissues and organs
• The practice of different breathing exercises and meditation using Buteyko breath control
• How to prevent exercise-induced asthma and reduce breathlessness during physical exercise
• The importance of relaxation. How to bring the body into a calm and relaxed state through breath ad diaphragmatic work

Yoga for Stress, the Adrenal Glands, Depression and Anxiety with Lucia Micheluzzi. 1 day.
In this module you will learn to:
• Understand stress, depression and anxiety and the role of the adrenal glands in these conditions.
• Recognise the signs and symptoms of stress, depression and anxiety.
• Understand the physiology, causes and effects of stress, depression and anxiety.
• How to evaluate stress.
• Learn effective, practical skills including yoga, nutrition and mindful breathing deigned to empower your clients to cope more effectively with stress, depression and anxiety.
• Adapt, develop and instruct a safe Yoga based exercise plan to help your clients manage their condition more effectively.
Yoga for arthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis with Amy Waring. 1 day
In this module we will learn to understand arthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and how these conditions affect the practice of yoga and are affected by the practice of yoga. You will learn to:
• Recognise the signs and symptoms of the above conditions.
• Understand the causes, physiology and effects of the above conditions.
• Understand how posture gets compromised when the condition becomes chronic and the issues related to this.
• Learn effective practical skills, modifications and small daily healing actions and practices that can ameliorate and have a clear effect on these conditions.
• Learn small sequences which diminish the pain and address recovery from these conditions.
• Learn how to re-educate habits to improve an overall sense of wellbeing and self-awareness.
• Learn how to interact with medical professionals who already treat the students- including the implications of medication and dosages.
• Learn how to interact and collaborate with other teachers or trainers who may be involved in the students wellbeing.

Yoga for Diabetes with Lucia Micheluzzi. 1 day. 
This module teaches you to identify and understand diabetes and how to address these conditions through various techniques including yoga, nutrition and breathing. You will learn to:
• Understand Diabetes type 1 and 2.
• Recognise the signs and symptoms of Diabetes type 1 and 2.
• Understand the physiology, causes and effects of Diabetes type 1 and 2.
• Learn effective, practical skills including yoga, nutrition and mindful breathing deigned to empower your clients to cope more effectively with Diabetes type 1 and 2.
• Adapt, develop and instruct a safe Yoga based exercise plan to help your clients manage their condition more effectively.

Yoga for Obesity, Hypertension and High Cholesterol with Lucia Micheluzzi. 1 day.
In this module you will learn to:
• Understand Obesity, Hypertension and High Cholesterol.
• Recognise the signs and symptoms of Obesity, Hypertension and High Cholesterol.
• Understand the physiology, causes and effects of Obesity, Hypertension and High Cholesterol.
• Learn effective, practical skills including yoga, nutrition and mindful breathing deigned to empower your clients to cope more effectively with Obesity, Hypertension and High Cholesterol.
• Adapt, develop and instruct a safe Yoga based exercise plan to help your clients manage their condition more effectively.
